Clinton Community College
GED/Ability To Benefit Program
Clinton Community College’s Ability to Benefit Program provides an opportunity for those without a high school diploma or GED access to attend college. The Ability to Benefit (ATB) program is designed to help qualified students earn their GED while attending college. This is not a training session to prepare for the New York State GED exam. Students who qualify for the ATB program can complete their GED by choosing from a list of New York State approved college courses. Students who successfully complete a minimum of 25 credits (8 courses) will qualify to apply for their New York State GED.
Program participants often continue to attend College after earning their GED. After earning 25 college credits students may choose to apply a portion of these credits to a two year Associates degree. When a student completes the ATB program they may have earned 1/3 of the credits necessary to complete a 60 credit Associate Degree.
Students are accepted to the ATB program based on successful completion of a three subject exam. The exam is free and offered on campus in Plattsburgh, NY prior to the start of each academic semester. The exam subjects are Arithmetic, Sentence Structure and Reading Comprehension. By receiving a passing score on all three subjects, a student is invited to enroll at Clinton Community College. All students have complete access to various support services. Financial Aid, Academic Advisement, use of the Library and Tutoring Center assistance are all available free of charge.
Fall 2010 Semester beginning August 30th, 2010, we recommended interested students contact Admissions no later than August 01, 2010.
