Plattsburgh – The Lady Cougars will open their season on Sunday, August 30 at 1pm against Onondaga Community College in Plattsburgh.
Clinton has a total of 15 players this season and Coach Donna Dixon is worried about her lack of numbers. “We’ve just added two more players and that gives us 15. I still would like to have three or four more and it’s a little disappointing and frustrating.”
"We have a few older players who are non-freshmen," Dixon said. "We feel we will be able to generate a lot of offense and we're young on defense."We're not as fast as we have been in the past. We are, however, definitely skilled. I'm excited to see what the girls bring to the table. It's going to be trial-and-error at first until we get the people where we want them."Hopefully, we will stay healthy.”
Kelley Lucia in goal for the Cougars this season. "Kelley has done a great job in the preseason," Dixon said. "She has really stepped it up and that will help us.""Of the four players we have in the back — Kaelyn Scott, Erin Terry, Jen Fountain and Brittany Godreau — only one is a returner and the other three are first-year players."Midfielders include Emily Lashway, Magan Bechard and Shauni Trombly.
On offense Kim Dragoon is a key striker. Brooke Waite, Codia Holland, Paige Aldridge and Sarah LaBarge will also be strong up front.
"We haven't had many practices and it depends how quickly the girls get the system down," Dixon said."Right now, it's too early to tell if we're going to be more of an offensive team or a defensive one."
