CCC Welcomes Kasprzak as Director of Nursing

Plattsburgh, NY.... Kathleen Kasprzak, Ph.D., R.N., has been appointed Director of Nursing at Clinton Community College, effective June 5, 2006. As Director of Nursing, Kasprzak assumes the overall responsibility for the Division of Nursing and Allied Health, which includes the Nursing Program, Medical Laboratory Technology Program, and supervision for the Health, Physical Education Program. The Director of Nursing reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Paul Almonte. For fifteen years, Kasprzak has been in the private practice of Psychophysiological Health, in Plattsburgh. Prior to establishing that practice, she held various positions at CVPH Medical Center, a career that began in 1970 when she graduated from nursing school. Her most recent position there was in 1987 as Clinical Director, Medical-Surgical Nursing Division where she was responsible for the management and leadership of the division, which included areas of program development, hiring, budget development, and the supervision of patient care. She currently serves on the Board of Directors at CVPH. "Dr. Kasprzak is highly respected throughout our service area as a top health care provider and leader," expressed CCC President Maurice B. Hickey. "We are fortunate to have her join the Clinton Team. We all are looking forward to her leadership for our nursing program."
Kasprzak received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1970 from D'Youville College, Buffalo, New York. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing Administration in 1984 at Russell Sage College, Troy, New York, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Psycho-physiological Health in 1990 from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition,
Kasprzak is certified by the American Academy of Pain Management, the American Holistic Nurses’ Association, Healing Touch International and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
As Kasprzak embarks on her role as director of CCC's nationally accredited Associate in Applied Science Nursing Program, the Fall 2006 semester brings 70 new freshman nursing students and 47 returning senior nursing students to the program. Approximately 15-20 students will enter the Medical Laboratory Technology program and a number of others will enter into the Health, Physical Education and Recreation programs. Kasprzak will have supervision for a staff of 10.
"There has been a long legacy here at Clinton - a long legacy of excellence," said Kasprzak. "We live in a dynamic world, so we can't stand still. I am challenged to work at all levels to improve upon that excellence and I hope to do so in a way that honors the legacy."
Kasprzak is an active member and/or has chaired a number of health-related committees within the community over the span of her nursing career. She is active in her professional nursing organizations and is currently a member of the American Nurses' Association, Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies, the American Academy of Pain Management and the American Holistic Nurses' Association, to name a few. She keeps her expertise current by attending continuing educational programs throughout the country. She has shared this expertise by conducting professional presentations on a variety of topics for organizations throughout the local area. She lives in Plattsburgh with her husband Dr. Donald Kasprzak and has 6 stepchildren.
