CCC Welcomes Mentors in Violence Prevention To Campus

Monday, September 25, 2006

On October 2, 2006, instructors for Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) will be on the campus at Clinton Community College (CCC) from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. to present their gender violence prevention and education program, which targets student athletes.

Boston’s Northeastern University Center for Sport in Society, describes the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) as a leadership program that motivates student-athletes and student leaders to play a central role in solving problems that historically have been considered "women's issues": rape, battering, and sexual harassment.

Kristen Howe, program coordinator for the Violence Prevention Project at Clinton explained, “Out of the twenty-two colleges nationwide that have applied for the free training, through the grant process, I am very proud to say that Clinton was one of five colleges selected! We are the only community college and the only school (besides SUNY Plattsburgh who we are sharing the training with) on the east coast to be selected.”

“This grant is an exceptional opportunity for students, faculty and staff at Clinton Community College to lead the way nationally in prevention on a Community College Campus,” said Vice President for Student Services, Steve St. Onge. “I am proud of the faculty, staff and students on our campus who work together to put programs like this in place.”
