CCC Announces Promotions & Appointments

Plattsburgh, New York ….Clinton Community College welcomes new employees and announces employee appointments and promotions.


Jennifer Waite has been appointed interim vice president for academic affairs/dean of the faculty, filling the vacancy left by Dr. Paul Almonte. Waite came to Clinton in 2003 as human services faculty and program coordinator. She recently served as division coordinator for the History and Social Science Division. Waite received her master’s in social work from Syracuse University, a master’s in education from St. Lawrence University, and a bachelor’s in sociology from Cortland State University, Cortland, New York. Waite, a licensed master social worker (LMSW), is currently pursuing a doctorate at Walden University, Baltimore, Maryland.


Kim Bresette is promoted to associate dean for enrollment management. Bresette came to Clinton in 2002 as career planning and transfer advisor. In 2004, she was named associate dean of student retention services and on September 1, assumed her new duties overseeing admissions, financial aid, registrar, campus advising and student leadership. Bresette has a bachelor of social work and masters in administration and leadership from Plattsburgh State University; she earned her associates from CCC. Bresette served 4 years as director of the AmeriCorps program, located at Plattsburgh State University, prior to coming to Clinton.


Tobi L. Hay is the new coordinator of campus advising and student leadership. She has 12 years experience working with college students, most recently as part-time advisor for Counseling and Advisement at Clinton. She was formerly assistant director of undergraduate career education at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, a campus recruiter for a management-consulting firm in Boston, and she held positions at Boston College in graduate finance programs and in admissions at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. Hay has a master's degree in student affairs from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree from Colgate University.


Chrisa O'Connell has been appointed student support services coordinator for the counseling and advisement staff. O’Connell has been a member of Counseling and Advisement since March of 2006.  She holds a master’s degree in counseling from PSU. Prior to joining the team at Clinton, O’Connell worked at Champlain Valley Family Center for almost ten years.


Ty Kretser is the new senior learning skills coordinator in the campus tutoring center. Kretser, a Plattsburgh native, joined the college in 2003 as adjunct in the Math and Science Division. He received his bachelor of science, cum laude at St. Lawrence University and a master of engineering from the Aerospace Engineering Department and Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences Department, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior to coming to CCC, Kretser has held a number of positions in the aerospace industry as well as in teaching.


Barbara Baker joined Clinton’s nursing and allied health program as assistant professor in September 2007. A native of the North Country, Baker received a bachelor in nursing from Keuka College and her master of science in nursing from Sage Graduate School. Prior to coming to Clinton, Baker worked as a family nurse practitioner at Adirondack Health Care Associates in Peru. She is secretary of the Adirondack chapter of The Nurse Practitioner Association.


Katrina Evens joined Clinton’s nursing and allied health program as assistant professor. Evens, a registered nurse, completed a master’s in nursing leadership/management in May 2007. She is an experienced Infection Control and Nurse Manager and is certified in Oncology. As adjunct clinical instructor at CCC for 3 years, Evans enjoyed the classroom while filling in as temporary full-time assistant professor during the 2007 spring semester. Evans is a Red Cross volunteer and served as chapter nurse for the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross.


Lauren Polvere joined CCC as assistant professor/psychology, in September 2007. Polvere has a bachelor's in psychology and a master's in counseling/community psychology, from Marist College. Currently, she is pursuing her doctorate in developmental psychology through the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Prior to coming to Clinton, Polvere worked clinically with children and youth in the foster care system, and she was an adjunct professor at Marist College.


John Conley is the director of buildings and grounds for CCC. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Conley attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York where he earned his associates degree in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Prior to coming to Clinton, Conley was director of engineering at The Sagamore in Bolton Landing, New York. He was the recipient of a number of awards during his employment, including Manager of the Year 2005.


John Abare joined the buildings and grounds team as a permanent part time custodial worker. Abare is a U.S. Army veteran, and is owner of Au Sable Pines Campground in Peru, New York. Abare’s plans include pursuing an associate’s in business administration degree as an online student at CCC.


Kathleen Stone was appointed instructor in the Mathematics and Science Division. Stone is an alumnus of CCC, she earned an associate in science and was named class valedictorian, December 2003. She also served as the first president of the newly formed National Science Teachers Association Student Club on campus. Stone earned her bachelor’s in geology, summa cum laude, at PSU in 2005. She is currently working on her master’s in adult education through Buffalo State University.


Anne de la Chapelle joined CCC as the part time evening librarian in April 2007. de la Chapelle has a bachelor of arts in international relations and in political science from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. She got her master’s in library science from the University at Albany. Prior to coming to Clinton she was the director of the Westport Library Association for six years and assistant director prior to that.


Christopher Drennan, associate professor, is Division Coordinator for Social Science. Drennan came to CCC in 2005. He received a doctorate in political science, from the University of Chicago in 1988, a master of science, politics I, from London School of Economics and Political Science, 1981, and a bachelor of arts, honors, political science, Concordia University, 1980. Drennan has previously held positions at North Country Community College and the University of Nevada-Reno.


Ron Poland, associate professor, is Division Coordinator for Business and Technology. Poland came to CCC in 2001. Poland holds several certifications in information technology and teaches computer science, Verizon Telecom and Digital courses. He received a master’s in science from University of Albany, a bachelor’s in science from Southern Illinois University Jacksonville, and an associate of science at Florida Community College Jacksonville, Florida.


Promotions also include employees Catherine Mitchell, from assistant to associate professor, nursing, Michele Snyder, assistant to associate professor, science, Jennifer Waite, assistant to associate professor, human services, and Elizabeth Bailey and Susan Goff from associate to professor, nursing.


Lauren Touhey is the new director of student development for the Faculty Student Association at Clinton. Touhey attended Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and earned a bachelor of arts in English/communications and a master’s in educational administration and policy studies with a concentration in higher education from the University of Albany. While at UA, Touhey worked as a graduate assistant at Siena College for Student Activities Office, and she was a graduate assistant at UA's Urban Education Office.
