Wednesday, January 09, 2008
Plattsburgh, NY - Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and Clinton Community College Foundation are pleased to announce the establishment of the “Wyeth Legacy Scholarship Fund” to benefit Clinton Community College students from the Clinton, Essex, and Franklin county areas.
On January 9, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the Stafford Center for Art, Science and Technology, Wyeth representatives, David F. Champagne, III, Managing Director, and Perry Kurtz, Wyeth Research Senior Director Drug Safety Operations, will present Steven Frederick, Dean of Development and Alumni Affairs, with a check in the amount of $250,000 for the Clinton Community College Foundation, Wyeth Legacy Scholarship Fund. A scholarship will be awarded annually providing full-tuition to a full-time Clinton Community College student pursuing an associate’s degree in a science-based program and is from the tri-county area.
"Wyeth has a history of involvement and support with Clinton Community College," said David F. Champagne, III, managing director for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Rouses Point, N.Y. "The alliance formed between the two organizations has provided space and training for Wyeth’s workforce. We are pleased that this gift will build on that partnership and help students each year to develop their skills and become an asset to the North Country today and in the future."
“Once again, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and Clinton Community College have teamed up to provide citizens of our three northern counties with the opportunity to continue their education,” expressed Interim President Frederick Woodward. “The scholarships derived from this gift make it possible for students seeking further education to afford the educational experience. We are grateful to Wyeth for their continued support and this truly wonderful gift.”
Craig Squier ’72, CCC Foundation President said, “On behalf of the CCC Foundation Board, we are most grateful for this significant donation to the college. Over the past several years, Wyeth has been very supportive of this institution’s mission and its ability to provide an advanced, technically trained, workforce back to the community. This most generous endowment will help to perpetuate meeting the needs of the students at the local community college level.”
“This Legacy gift is the culmination to the progressive and robust relationship which has existed between Wyeth and CCC,” stated Frederick. “As recent as 2002, the CCC Board of Trustees nominated Wyeth for the New York Community College Trustees’ Business/Industry Partnership Award for their long standing relationship with CCC. This is the highest award NYCCT can bestow to a business/industry for their partnership and commitment with a local community college. A new employee training program was created where the college provided office space for Wyeth trainers including state-of-the-art laboratory space, computers, and a conference room, and as a result, two-week rotating training programs have continued throughout the year.
A technical maintenance program in Plant Maintenance was also created for Wyeth employees, which includes topics such as blueprint and schematic reading, industrial electricity/motor controls, principles of fluid power systems, and principals of industrial maintenance. This program has been extended to a ten-credit course package, earning employees 10 credits towards an associate’s degree in Industrial Technology from CCC.”
