The SHRM® Learning System Course
The SHRM Learning System Course is designed to provide an overview of key areas in human resource management. Materials include six modules that correspond to the six functional areas, responsibilities, and associated knowledge as defined by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). The programs offered in cooperation with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as study material for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification examinations administered by HRCI.


(SHRM) Fundamentals of Human Resource Management
This program is designed for employees with management responsibilities. This is the perfect crash course for managers who need to know basic HR concepts BEFORE disciplinary action is required and HR has to get involved. HR Fundamentals is for those who want an overview of areas outside their current specialty; or for newcomers who want an overview of the whole field. HR Fundamentals is not for the seasoned HR professional (unless you're looking for a general broad stroke update) but is a must for anyone managing people. Knowledge of the fundamentals can keep your company out of trouble, make you a better manager, improve workplace morale, and protect your company from needless litigation.

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) ServSafe Certification
This course is designed to give the manager/operator a working knowledge in the changes to the FDA Food Code and the principles and practices currently available for proper food sanitation and the application of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP).

Participants will need to attend both sessions and complete the national examination, achieving 75% or above to become certified by the National Restaurant Association. Individuals will also receive the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Division of Food Safety Education Certification for completion of the Food Safety Education Program by meeting the requirements of the NYS Ag & Markets Law Part 271, Sub Sections 251-z-3 and 251-z-12.

Who Should Attend? Food Handlers, Food Service Managers, Quality Assurance Personnel, Restaurant Chefs, Dieticians, Restaurant Personnel, Retail Food Handlers, Nutritionists, Health Officers or Public Health Officials, School Cafeteria Workers

AutoCAD 2008
This course is aimed at those wishing to learn how to use the latest version of the world's leading desktop drafting and design package. No previous knowledge of CAD packages is required; a familiarity with the Windows operating system is essential and reasonable keyboard skills are advantageous.

The course examines all 2D aspects of the package, from setting up, through creating and editing designs, to dimensioning and laying out designs ready for plotting. All topics are learned through hands-on exercises and training materials.

Blueprint Reading & Schematics
Course is designed to familiarize individuals with a broad overview of methods of constructing blueprints and their interpretations. Individuals will study, read and draw schematic drawings used for industrial processes and controls including electricial, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical drawings. Required textbook: Print Reading for Industry, is available at the college bookstore.

Basic Electricity
This training course provides a basic conceptual understanding of basic electrical concepts, including electrical measurements, basic electrical theory in a non-mathematical manner, and an understanding of how common electrical components work. This training course also provides a basis for understanding electrical safety concepts. This course is heavily hands-on oriented and focuses on providing a real understanding of the essential concepts.

Introduction to Industrial Electricity
This course will teach and demonstrate control circuits, switch gears, protective devices, buses, breakers, and power distribution systems found in the industrial environment. Control circuits for both DC and AC motors will be explained along with basic motor theory. Common power plant distribution systems will also be studied. The theory, use and programming of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems in industry will be emphasized and practiced. The lab will provide hands-on experience for individuals as they design, build, test, trouble-shoot and repair various circuits and devices, as well as program PLC.

Principles of Industrial Maintenance
This course covers the economic benefits of properly maintaining manufacturing equipment to minimize down-time and capital cost of premature replacement. The course emphasizes the importance and techniques of preventative maintenance and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Students will design and develop inspection plans for various manufacturing processes and machinery.

Applied Occupational Math
Course is designed for remediation in Basic Occupational Mathematics. Course content to be covered includes but is not limited to: Operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, integers, percent, square roots, positive and negative numbers, the number line, basic algebra and some geometry. Certificate of residency is required.

Real Estate Sales Qualifying
Successful completion of this course satisfies the new 75 hour educational requirement for those who wish to obtain a license to sell real estate. Topics include: law of contracts and agencies, real estate instruments, financing, disclosure law and more.

Attendance: 67.5 hours of class is mandatory; you must also pass the class exam. Failure to meet State attendance requirements does not in itself justify a refund for this course. In order to apply for the real estate license, you must be sponsored by and have the signature of a licensed real estate broker and pass the state exam. Textbook Required: NY Real Estate for Sales Persons, 4th Edition, Spada, available at the College Bookstore.


Reading and Understanding Deeds
The particpants will learn essentials of deeds including; names and adresses, description plotting (including fitness for seconday market), life estates, outstanding partial interest, necessary signatories to the deed, various types of deeds, and types of notary achknowledgements. Approved for 3.5 hours of continuing education credit for Real Estate Sales.

Practical and Legal Aspects of Real Estate Title Insurance
Explanantion of and elaboration on: What title insurance is, different types of title insurance policies, risks covered by title insurance, risks not covered by title insurance, surveys and title insurance, increases in property value, and title insurance claims. Approved for 3.5 hours of continuing education credit for Real Estate Sales.

Do Legal Documents Have an Impact on Market Value
This course will cover a variety of topics dealing with the many real estate legal documents typically associated with the sale and appraisal of real property. The student will have a greater understanding of the meaning of the various document titles, what role these documents play in the real estate transaction and their impact on market value. Examples of how these documents have impacted a transaction or appraising of real property will be given. Approved for 7.5 hours of continuing education credit for Real Estate and Appraisal.

Notary Public
The New York Notary exam is a thorough test of an individual’s knowledge on New York Notary laws and procedure. This seminar provides the practical training participants need to do well on the exam. This course will also teach students how to notarize correctly, lawfully and safely. A textbook will be available to purchase at the college bookstore.

Learning the Math of Money
Develop the basic skills for using math through examples of money. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and other math skills are explained with coins and bills, buying multiple items and exchanging bills for change. Individuals will gain basic math skills and the ability to work with money accurately. Certificate of residency is required.

Time Management Skills
This short course will teach participants the fundamental skills and techniques for effective time management in the workplace. Participants will recognize the importance of developing goals, setting objectives, and prioritizing work. They will learn to identify and eliminate personal and environmental time wasters and create an efficient work environment. Certificate of residency is
required.

Job Search and Interviewing Techniques
This comprehensive one day workshop will discuss how to write professional cover letters and resumes, provide helpful hints for interviewing, and discuss portfolio assessments. Participants should bring a lunch with them. There are three sessions being offered, two for education majors and one for all other interested individuals.

Communication Skills Workshop Series

The following workshops, when taken together, will result in a certificate of completion for the Communication Skills Workshop Series.

These workshops may be taken separately for those who are not pursuing the completion certificate.

Communication Skills
The design of this workshop is to give an overview of written communications. Addresses internal and external communications using various types of communication and media used to convey information. An emphasis will be on email etiquette, memorandums, and proper business letters conveying both positive and negative messages. Certificate of residency is required.


Power Point

Power Point is software designed for creating presentations. Our workshop is designed for the person who never used PowerPoint. The experienced instructor will lead participants though the functions of PowerPoint in a hands-on, project oriented environment.


Presentation Skills
This workshop will provide participants with the skills needed to make great presentations. Participants will learn how to speak at events and meetings, as well as one-on-one. Participants will also learn how to prepare a great promotional presentation. Certificate of residency is required.
